Suzanne Scott
DIRECTOR OF BANDS

Suzanne Scott joined the faculty at Memorial High School as the Assistant Band Director in 2013 and became the Director of Bands in 2016. Before coming to Memorial High School, Ms. Scott taught for nine years at various schools including Stratford High School, Chisholm Trail Middle School in Round Rock, and Pearland Junior High School South. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Sam Houston State University in 2002 and a Master of Music Education degree from Florida State University in 2006. While in college, she was an active horn player in many university ensembles including the SHSU Wind Ensemble, SHSU Symphony Orchestra, SHSU Bearkat Marching Band, FSU Wind Orchestra, FSU Chamber Winds, FSU Symphony Orchestra, and FSU Marching Chiefs. Ms. Scott received numerous scholarships and awards in college including the Fisher Tull Memorial Endowed Scholarship, the Texas Music Educators Association College Division Scholarship, the Texas Bandmasters Association Malcolm Helm Scholarship, and was selected to perform in the Sam Houston State University Honors Recital. Ms. Scott performed with the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps on mellophone for three years. She currently plays horn with the Sugar Land Winds, a semi-professional wind ensemble comprised of band directors, private teachers, and a few non-professional ex-band students. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Texas Music Educators Association. Ms. Scott currently serves as the Band Division Chairman for TMEA Region 27, and she is the Vice President of Membership for the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. She enjoys spending time with her cats (Sebastian, Kia, and Snickerdoodle) and loves taking Princess Buttercup to the dog park every weekend.

Jeff Munger
aSSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BANDS

Jeff Munger became the Assistant Band Director for the Mustang Band in 2017. He has been teaching in Spring Branch ISD since 2009, at Spring Woods Middle School for two years and Spring Woods High School for six years. He also taught previously at Langham Creek High School in Cy-Fair I.S.D. Mr. Munger’s primary instrument is percussion and he specializes in marching percussion, four mallet marimba, and drumset. Mr. Munger graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He also holds a Master’s degree in Music performance from the University of Houston. While at the University of Houston, Mr. Munger was the Principal percussionist for the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, and performed on tour at PASIC with the U of H percussion ensemble. He has received numerous awards including the Martha and Perry Brittain Scholarship for Jazz Studies at SFA and the Victor Gonzalez Memorial Percussion Award from U of H. Mr. Munger currently adjudicates for the Cypress Fairbanks I.S.D. Solo and Ensemble Contest each year and surrounding percussion regions. His music affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Percussive Arts Society. In his spare time, Mr. Munger enjoys spending time with his wife, Meredith, and his two sons, Jeffrey and Jackson. His hobbies include a wide range of things from restoring classic trucks, to camping, hunting, and playing jazz and Caribbean steel band music.

DEVIN HIGHTOWER
COLOR GUARD DIRECTOR
Devin Hightower joined the Mustang Band staff as the Color Guard Director in 2024. He moved to Houston from the Tampa Bay Area in Florida. Before moving to Houston, Mr. Hightower was the Color Guard Director at Newsome High School in Lithia, Florida. He also taught, choreographed, and designed shows for various programs in Tampa Bay and central Florida. In addition to teaching color guard, he was a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance studio. Mr. Hightower has been involved in the marching arts for over ten years. He fell in love with the activity at his high school in northern Florida and eventually moved to central Florida where he continued his color guard career with Tampa Independent and Dance Den of Tampa. He really enjoys sharing his knowledge of the arts with students and watching them grow into amazing performers. Mr. Hightower believes the most rewarding thing is life is getting to watch his students perform their hearts out on the field or floor and know that he played a part in their new passion. He is excited to work with the MHS Color Guard and make great memories with this program!
