Welcome to the mustang band!
I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Memorial High School Mustang Band! We are so excited that you have decided to continue Band in high school or join our amazing Color Guard. Please read through all of the announcements below about our upcoming events – there is A LOT of important information included! Please make plans to attend Summer Band beginning the week of July 29. We have provided a detailed Summer Band schedule and the Fall performance calendar in the Summer Band Information letter included below. Please let us know if you have any questions about these events. The directors look forward to working with you and having you join the award-winning Mustang Band!
Important Dates for 2024-25
Please put the following dates on your calendars for the 2024-25 Mustang Band:
July 29: First day of Summer Band rehearsals for ALL Mustang Band members
Aug 9: Uniform Fitting and Registration Day, 12:00-5:30pm
Aug 10: Meet the Mustangs Pep Rally, 6:00pm
Aug 14: Freshman Stampede (Band Performance Time TBD)
Aug 14: Band Pool Party (Location and Times TBD)
Aug 16: Meet the Band Performance, 6:30pm - Picnic and Booster Club meeting to follow
Aug 24: Band Car Wash, 9:00am-12:00pm
Oct 11: Stadium Rehearsal at Tully, 8:30-11:00am (student holiday)
Oct 19: Battle at the Berry Marching Festival
Oct 26: UIL Region 27 Marching Contest
Nov 2: UIL Area I Marching Contest (if we advance)
*We must have the UIL Pre-Participation Physical Forms for 2024-25 prior to the first day of Percussion Camp, Color Guard Camp, or Summer Band rehearsals. Students are not allowed to participate in summer activities until we have the new form for the 2024-25 school year. Physical exams must be completed after April 1st to be valid for the 2024-25 school year

AUDITION MUSIC FOR 2024-25
The MHS Band Audition Music for band placement for the fall semester will be posted here once it is available. Please read the Audition Information letter carefully. On all parts of your playing audition, it is most important to play with a good sound and play the correct notes and rhythms. How fast you play is secondary in importance to these things. Be ready to play your audition beginning on Wednesday, May 8. Auditions will be held during your band class whenever possible. We hope to have all playing auditions completed by Tuesday, May 14 and the results posted later that week. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing you play.
SUMMER BAND LETTER
Please click on the link to read a copy of the Summer Band Letter. Percussion and Color Guard camps will begin on Monday, July 22. Summer Band for ALL students will begin on Monday, July 29. Please read the entire letter and put all of the listed dates on your personal calendar. Please notify the directors ASAP if you have any conflicts with the Summer Band rehearsal dates. NOTE: The marching contest dates in October and November are required performances for all band and color guard students.
Color Guard Performance Wear
New and returning color guard members will have the opportunity to order the required performance wear items from Leapin’ Leotards at "Meet the Band" on Tuesday, May 21. Many of these items will last all four years of high school. Please refer to the Leapin’ Leos Order Form for pricing information for these required items. Payment is expected at the time of the order. We accept cash, checks made payable to MHS Color Guard, and online payments using MySchoolBucks. We will also measure color guard members for the marching show uniform.
PRE-PARTICIPATION PHYSICALS
SBISD and the UIL require all students participating in marching band and/or athletics to complete a physical evaluation each year prior to participating in any summer activities, including Summer Band rehearsals. Physical exams for the 2024-25 school year must be completed after April 1, 2024. You must use the required UIL Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form when you receive your annual physical for marching band. The UIL Physical Form was updated in 2024!
Sports physicals are only valid for one school year. Before band and color guard members can participate in any outdoor summer band sessions or marching band rehearsals, they MUST have a current physical form and be cleared for participation by the Athletic Training staff. All physicals must be completed AFTER April 1st to be valid for the following school year.
Please use the most current version of the UIL Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form. NOTE: The current, updated version of the UIL physical form has 2024 in the top right corner of the form. Do not use any other physicals forms other than the ones linked below. If you turn in an old form, you will not be cleared for participation until you turn in the newest version of the physical form.
You MUST use blue or black ink only to complete the form, including ALL signatures. Forms completed in pencil or colored ink will not be accepted. Please enter your grade level for the 2024-2025 school year. Please enter the school you will attend in the 2024-2025 school year. Complete all sections of the Medical History on page 1 before arriving for your physical, including the parent signature and student signature at the bottom of the page.
